What is Antenatal Shared Care?
Antenatal Shared Care (ANSC) is a partnership between your GP and a public hospital. It allows you to have most of your routine pregnancy care with your GP while still having access to hospital maternity services when specialist care is required.
Your GP and hospital maternity team work together throughout your pregnancy to provide coordinated care and support.

Your GP can provide regular antenatal care close to home, while your hospital maternity team remains involved when additional assessment or specialist care is needed.
How does shared care work?
Your GP provides your routine pregnancy care while working alongside your hospital maternity team.
Regular GP appointments
Your GP will monitor your health and your baby's development, provide routine antenatal care and answer your questions throughout your pregnancy.
Hospital involvement
Your hospital maternity team remains involved in your care and provides specialist assessment or treatment when required.
Ongoing communication
Your GP and hospital team communicate and coordinate your care throughout your pregnancy.

Who can have Antenatal Shared Care?
Antenatal Shared Care is generally available to women experiencing a low-risk pregnancy. Your GP will discuss your individual circumstances and whether shared care is appropriate for you.
Your GP will guide you
If shared care is suitable, your GP can help arrange the appropriate hospital referral and explain what you can expect during your pregnancy.
