Appointments

Below is some information on our booking processes.

Appointments

You can schedule appointments for in-person or telehealth visits with our GPs. If you think you need an examination (like checking your throat, ears, or a sprain), please book a face-to-face consult to avoid the hassle of having to come in after a phone consultation. Fees are the same for both appointment types. For more information on our fees, please click here.

All appointments require a booking. We do not accept walk-in appointments for new or existing patients. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call ‘000’, head to your local hospital emergency department, or visit your nearest Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

At SDC, we do our best to keep our doctors running on time. We aim for you to be seen as close to your appointment time as possible. All appointments are booked as standard consultations (15 mins). If you think you need a longer appointment, please let our reception staff know when booking an appointment, or select long consult (30 mins) when booking an appointment online to assist us in keeping time.

Please note that we do not run a formal cancellation list for our doctors. We recommend patients check HotDoc to see if any availability arises, or speak to one of our receptionists who can let you know if there are any sooner appointments.

Why do receptionists ask me questions when I book an apppointment?

There are many reasons why our receptionists ask you questions when you book an appointment:

  1. To book you with the right doctor

Some doctors handle specific issues—receptionists need to know the reason for your visit to match you appropriately (e.g., mental health, women’s health, procedures).

  2. To allocate the right amount of time

Different appointment types need different time slots. A quick script renewal takes less time than a care plan or skin check.

  3. To check referrals/paperwork

For specialists, a valid referral is needed. If you’re booking for something like a driving medical, you may need to bring specific forms.

  4. To prepare for your visit

Some appointments may need tests, fasting, or previous results. Reception staff help make sure you’re informed beforehand.

  5. To provide information on Medicare claiming / fees

Some visits aren’t covered by Medicare, or have out-of-pocket costs. Knowing the appointment type helps them advise you accurately.

Our receptionists are trained to be discreet and respectful — if you're ever uncomfortable, you're always welcome to say you'd prefer to speak to the doctor directly. But generally, the goal is to make your visit smoother and avoid delays or rescheduling.

Appointment reminders

When you book an appointment, you will be sent an appointment confirmation via SMS, email or push notification (if you have the HotDoc app).

You will also be sent an appointment reminder SMS/email/push notification 24 hours before your appointment to confirm or cancel your appointment. We ask that patients respond to this confirmation message ASAP so that we can allow other patients to take your place if you cannot make your appointment.
