Dr Shailja Tewari

Dr Shailja Tewari is a Consultant Endocrinologist who was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2007. She completed her MBBS before undertaking Basic Physician Training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, followed by advanced training in Endocrinology across several major tertiary centres, including Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital and Concord Hospital.

Dr Tewari is a Senior Staff Specialist at The Canterbury Hospital and an Honorary Visiting Medical Officer at Concord Hospital. She consults privately here at SDC, along with her other rooms in Wahroonga and Rozelle.

She has extensive experience in managing both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, with a particular interest in diabetes management during pregnancy. She leads a multidisciplinary service at The Canterbury Hospital dedicated to the care of pregnant women with endocrine conditions. Her expertise includes managing gestational diabetes, optimising glycaemic control in women with pre-existing diabetes, and treating thyroid disorders in pregnancy.

Beyond diabetes, Dr Tewari has broad expertise in the management of thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, hypogonadism, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
