To bulk bill, we need your consent.

From 1 July 2026, Medicare introduced a new requirement for patients receiving bulk billed services. Patients must now provide consent each time a bulk billed consultation is processed. This consent is called an Assignment of Benefit (AoB).

What is an Assignment of Benefit (AoB)?

An Assignment of Benefit (AoB), also known as bulk billing consent, allows your Medicare benefit to be paid directly to your medical practice. This means you won't need to pay for an eligible bulk billed consultation.

What do I need to do?

If your appointment is being bulk billed, you'll need to complete your bulk billing consent on the day of your appointment. Please note that Medicare requires this consent before a bulk billed claim can be processed, so it is important that it is completed promptly.

Shortly after your consultation, you'll receive a notification from HotDoc via a push notification, SMS or email asking you to complete your consent. The process only takes a minute. For information on what this process looks like for you, please read this HotDoc article.

To help ensure you receive the request, we recommend keeping HotDoc notifications enabled and checking your SMS or email after your appointment.

What if I can't consent digitally?

Patients have the option to complete a paper consent form when they attend the clinic for an in-person appointment.

We understand this is an additional step for everyone, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we implement these new Medicare requirements. Thank you for helping us make this transition as smooth as possible.
